I wonder if my daughter has an earache when she drinks?

Hello, My almost 7 months old daughter has been on antibiotics for 3 days to treat an ear infection. At the same time, she has had a flare up of her teeth, two teeth were pierced, one of them yesterday). I notice that she is drinking less well since a few days. According to the doctor, she should drink minimum 750ml of milk. But for the last 3-4 days, she is not drinking the minimum. Do you think this is caused by the ear infection? Does it hurt when she drinks? Note that she eats 3 full meals a day in addition to these bottles. I had thought maybe to give her bottles more often? Would this be an alternative? Thank you in advance for your help.

Thank you for your question!
It is common to have a decreased appetite during illness and even during teething. This does not necessarily indicate a problem as long as:
  • Her general condition remains good overall;
  • She drinks/eats, even if less than usual;
  • She wets and soils her diaper.
You can encourage her to drink more fluids, even if it means giving her smaller amounts more frequently, and/or reducing the size of her meals. There is no clear path to follow, as long as she is eating/drinking, it means you are doing the right thing :)
I hope I've been helpful and I'll stay available if there's anything!
