My baby has discharge from his eye?

My baby's eye has been running for a few days. There are sometimes yellowish purulent secretions. Her eye is not red. She is 3 1/2 months old. I am wondering if I should consult a doctor or if a visit to the pharmacy would be sufficient. What is recommended in this type of situation?
