Hello,
Although painkillers can relieve a headache, they can also have the opposite effect and cause what is called a drug-induced headache (DIA) if used too often. Indeed, it is recommended to limit the frequency of use of:
  • Analgesics (NSAIDs, acetaminophen) to 14 days/month
  • Triptans and combined analgesics to 9 days/month
If use of agents from both groups is required, do not exceed 20 days/month. Patients who require frequent acute treatments are at risk for COM. Lifestyle modifications and appropriate preventive therapy should be considered.
