I was wondering if effexor was a good option or if I should ask my pharmacist to contact my doctor. Thank you

Hello , I have generalized anxiety and my family doctor prescribed effexor. However, I see a lot of comments on the internet where the opinions are to stick to it far that the side effects are atrocious. Is there a medication that does the same thing without as many side effects? Thank you

Good morning, ma'am,
Effexor is officially indicated by Health Canada for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder.
The choice of treatment depends on several factors such as your symptoms, history, the doctor's clinical experience, etc.
As for the "terrible side effects", I can tell you that any product or substance can cause undesirable effects, but in general these are mild and can be easily managed.
I invite you to discuss this with your pharmacist who will be in a better position to personalize the information to be given to you if you decide to start this treatment. Otherwise, you should consult your doctor again.
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
