In the first 3 to 6 months following the insertion of the IUD, yes, menstruation can be different and irregular. However, it should normalize afterwards. If not, you can discuss this with your doctor. Be aware that this does not affect the contraceptive effectiveness of your IUD.

Over time, periods should become less heavy and for some women, they may even disappear completely.
