I already received Pneumovax 23 8 years ago. Should I receive it again or receive Pneumovax13?

Hello,
Pneumovax 23 is the vaccine that fights pneumococcus, the bacteria often involved in pneumonia. It is reimbursed by the government and is recommended for all people aged 65 and over. Although its effect is 5 to 10 years, it is not recommended to have a second dose, as it could be ineffective
For Prevnar13 , the recommendations do not suggest it for all people aged 65 and over, but ask to look at it on a case-by-case basis. The latter could be especially interesting for people with health problems (e.g. lung disease, heart disease, weakened immune system) that will make it more difficult for the person to fight pneumonia. In fact, the vaccine would reduce by at least 30% the important infections caused by pneumococcal bacteria. It consists of one good dose for life. It is not reimbursed by the government
Therefore, the best thing to do is to discuss it with your pharmacist or your doctor who, according to your medical file, will be able to guide you further. Many pharmacies also have nurses available who can give you information, update your vaccination record and vaccinate you. In fact, if you have not already done so, the shingles vaccine is also recommended

Thank you for your answer.
Your answer is very enlightening.
Following my chemotherapy against cancer (lymphoma of the ganglions), I had a lung infection (pneumo cistys) and I have been treated for 8 months with inhalation therapy by Pentamidine. I will have my last inhalation on December 13th.
The hematooncologist doctor recommended the influenza vaccine but not the shingles vaccine because it is a "live" vaccine
What you write convinces me to get the Prevnar13 vaccine.
Thank you.
Have a nice day.

Is Prevnar13 the same vaccine as Pneumovax13?
Sarah-Yan Chagnon · 4 years ago
I have not found a vaccine currently on the market called Pneumovax 13. The only vaccine available that covers 13 inactive strains of pneumococcus is Prevnar 13, so that is the vaccine to ask for
Note that the new shingles vaccine (Shingrix) is an inactive vaccine in the same way as the pneumonia vaccine. The old shingles vaccine (Zostavax) was live, but it is not really used anymore because it is less effective
