My newborn's belly button smells a little bad, what can I do?

Smelly umbilical cord. Baby is 5 days old. We clean around the cord SEVERAL times a day with water and dry it out. For the past day, the cord smells bad, but there are no other signs of infection. (Redness or liquid)

Hello ma'am, this can be normal. Continue the hygiene with clear water only once or twice a day max. If the redness increases or if there is discharge, you should consult a doctor as a precaution.
