Hello, I just started a course of antibiotics for my strep throat. It is penicillin (PEN VK 300MG). I was wondering if there was a contraindication with alcohol? Thank you very much in advance.

Hello,
First of all, you should know that drinking alcohol will not diminish the effect of your antibiotic. This is a popular belief that has no scientific basis!
However, antibiotics sometimes cause digestive side effects, such as diarrhea, nausea or stomach upset. If you are experiencing these effects with your current treatment, I recommend that you avoid taking alcohol as it can cause the same kind of effect and therefore worsen the side effects you are experiencing.
However, if you tolerate your antibiotic well, it is possible to consume alcohol in moderation without affecting your treatment! Simply stop taking alcohol if you experience side effects.
I hope I have answered your question correctly,
