Can polycystic ovary syndrome affect the result of a pregnancy test?

26-year-old woman2 years ago
I have a history of ovarian cysts, so it is not unusual for me to have menstrual cycles that are out of whack (very out of whack). My last period was on December 30th. On February 5 I took a pregnancy test and it was negative. On Friday February 11 I had a positive result. The same Friday I took 4-5 other tests, all negative. On Saturday February 12th 4 tests were negative, on Sunday February 13th 3 tests were negative. No other positive. On Tuesday and Thursday of this week again 2 negative tests. I had a phone appointment with a doctor on Friday February 11, she told me that false positives can be caused by an ovarian mystery? and that the only way to confirm or deny my pregnancy would be to take a blood test. I had to wait until Friday February 18th to get an appointment with a doctor in Quebec (I'm from NB) to get a prescription for a blood test. I had a big stomach ache on Thursday night the 17th and my period started. I still went to my appointment this morning. However, this doctor contradicts the other one and tells me that the cysts can't explain the positive pregnancy test and that I would have miscarried instead. I don't know what to think since these two doctors are contradicting each other. Do you think it's possible that my ovarian cystitis caused the positive result? If not, if it was a miscarriage, why did I only have one positive result and not several? (I was using the clear blue and first respond tests)

Hello ma'am, thank you for your question.
Pregnancy tests detect the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin. This hormone is not affected by PCOS.
Sincerely
