Hello,
What you are describing does not sound exactly like tonsillitis. However, it is true that tonsillitis is contagious so contact with your boyfriend's saliva could have passed the infection to you.
In the case of tonsillitis/pharyngitis, it is necessary to treat with antibiotics when throat pain is present and interferes with activities of daily living. Other signs of the presence of tonsillitis, a pronounced taste in the back of the tongue, absence of cough, fever, swelling in the throat. Tonsillitis is much more common in children under 14 years old, that said you are not excluded from suffering from it.
With the symptoms you are describing now, it is POSSIBLE that it is the beginning of tonsillitis but it is not a proper diagnosis. For now I would recommend:
- Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated
- Spoonful of honey in warm water can soothe the irritation in your throat
- Rest
- Limit contact with loved ones
If you are really bothered by it, you can find out if a pharmacy in your area does a throat swab test (strep-test) to determine if there is the presence of the bacteria causing this infection (Streptococcus group B), if the test is positive you could be prescribed antibiotics if needed. You will see how the situation develops.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate.
