Is it normal to have a heavier discharge at 20 weeks of pregnancy?

35-year-old woman2 years ago
Hello, I am 20 weeks pregnant. I haven't really had much vaginal discharge since the beginning of my pregnancy. This morning, I had a solid gelatinous transparent discharge the size of a marble, about 1cm in diameter. Is this normal? I have never seen a discharge like this that is so solid/thick. I read about the mucous plug and I'm worried since it's late in the pregnancy. Should I see my doctor to check my cervix?

Hello,
It is normal to have a more or less solid discharge without odor during pregnancy. This discharge is more abundant as the pregnancy progresses and the baby descends into the pelvis. However, this discharge is not usually a sign of the loss of the mucous plug and is not a sign of imminent delivery. A panty liner can be worn when the discharge becomes heavier.
A doctor should be consulted if the discharge is associated with other symptoms (odor, color, blood, itching) or is continuous.
