My 5 year old has been coughing a lot at night for the past 6 days, he also coughs during the day, but less. He has energy and does not have a fever. Should I consult? What can I do to help him cough less at night? Thank you

Hello Ma'am,
Does your child have any other symptoms such as a stuffy or runny nose, even a little, sneezing, or anything else?
Have you tried anything for this problem?
Thanks!

He has a bit of a runny nose, but not continuously (e.g. stuffy nose in the morning). No other symptoms.
we do nasal douches twice a day

Thanks for the information!
You did the right thing with the nasal hygiene, I suggest it as often as needed, there is no maximum number of times during the day, and at least 30 minutes before bedtime. It's really by 'cleaning' the secretions and keeping them from running down the throat (especially when he's lying down) that you can decrease the cough.
A teaspoon of honey can also help with the cough. I would also encourage you to give him plenty to drink, cold or hot liquids depending on his preferences.
You should still notice a gradual improvement every day. If you don't notice any improvement after 7 days or if his condition deteriorates, I would advise consulting, if only as a precaution.
If there is anything, please don't hesitate to contact me!
