Constipation, abdominal cramping, bloating, what should I do?

21-year-old womana year ago
I am currently traveling in South East Asia (Vietnam), I think I have traveler's diarrhea, I have loose/liquid stools, headache, abdominal cramps and bloating. About 1 1/2 days ago, I took a medication (oral tablet) against diarrhea that my pharmacist had prescribed before my trip. However, I can no longer have a bowel movement even though I want to go to the bathroom. I still have a headache, abdominal cramps, bloating and at times, I have a colon ache (I think) depending on my position (if my body is twisted).

Hello!
I am concerned about your situation.
First, it is very important to stay hydrated. Do you have oral rehydration packets with you, like Gastrolyte? If so, take them, as they are the best way to rehydrate.
With the headaches and muscle aches reported, you may already be dehydrated. Have you urinated in the last few hours? Was the urine dark? Some signs of dehydration are: intense thirst, dry mouth, thick tongue, decreased urination. In the case of severe dehydration, you may also experience dizziness, confusion, headaches and rapid breathing. In this case, it would be better to consult a doctor in order to have an infusion to rehydrate you. Your travel insurance company may be able to refer you to an appropriate place for treatment.
I have a few questions for you:
  1. How many loose stools did you have per day?
  2. Did you have blood in your stool?
  3. Do you have a fever?
  4. What is the name of the medication prescribed by your pharmacist? Is it Loperamide (Imodium) or an antibiotic?
  5. Do you have any health problems?
I am waiting to hear from you.
Marie-Laurence Gauthier, pharmacist.
