Hello, I have been taking paxil 10mg for 7 days to treat anxiety. This morning, my vision has changed. I can see more blurred than usual, especially on lighted signs. For example, I could not read the price of gas at a distance where I usually see very well.
Should I stop the medication until I talk to my doctor? What are the risks of this side effect? Should I go see the optometrist soon?
Thank you very much!

Blurred vision is a rare, but possible side effect for Paxil. Since you are on a low dose and in the very early stages of treatment, I would suggest that you stop it cold turkey without any particular withdrawal. I would recommend that you make an appointment with your doctor to discuss this side effect and consider another molecule. You may also want to discuss this with your pharmacist where you were served Paxil so they can note the effect on your chart and optimize your follow-up.
Since the side effect appears to be directly related to taking Paxil again and blurred vision is your only symptom, an optometry consultation is not necessary at this time. However, if your vision worsens despite stopping Paxil, if you develop eye pain, difficulty keeping your eyes open to light, swelling, or redness, you should see an optometrist or doctor urgently.
Good day 🙂
