My spouse scratched his thumb while climbing. The wound looks infected. It's swollen. What should I do?

Hello,
the signs of an infection in a wound are
-redness
-heat
-purulent discharge
-pain
-swelling.
How long has the swelling been present? Are there other signs and symptoms?
The wound should be disinfected with soap and water and rinsed well. When cleaning, clean from the inside of the wound outward (in increasing circles).
Try to protect the wound with a sterile, non-adherent dressing to avoid contaminating the wound. The wound should be cleaned daily.
You can go to a pharmacy to consult your pharmacist to see if an antibiotic cream would be necessary for the wound.
If you see increased signs of infection or if there has been a scratch with something rusty (a tetanus shot may be needed in this situation), then a consultation should be in order.
I hope I've answered your question correctly!
