For the last ten minutes my heart has been beating 142 to 150 beats per minute. This without any exercise. I am 76 years old.

You should not take a medication that has been prescribed for another person. A treatment that is safe for one person can be dangerous for another.
If your heart rate remains at this level, you should see a doctor soon.
