Folic acid is used to prevent a rare malformation of the nervous system at the neural tube level. Depending on the risk (low, moderate, high) of having a child with such a malformation, our folic acid needs will be different. Thus, for some women, it will be necessary to take folic acid in addition to the prenatal vitamins that already contain it
