I am 51 years old and have been taking hormones for 6 years, estrogel and prometrium, I want to stop. Can I do it all at once or gradually?

Hello

Hormone therapy can be stopped all at once without any problem. However, about 1 out of 2 women will experience a fairly intense return of vasomotor symptoms (heat). This is especially true for women who had very strong menopausal symptoms. That said, it is possible to gradually reduce the dose of hormones to reduce the risk of the symptoms returning.

Perfect, thank you, have a nice evening

To do this, you can take 1 less Prometrium pill per week for 2 weeks, then 2 less pills per week for 2 weeks, and so on. You can then skip the Estrogel on those days until you stop taking both drugs.
