Can ciprofloxacin be prescribed for a baby for traveler's diarrhea? Can a Mosquito Repellent be used on a baby?

I am leaving on a trip for 1 week to the Dominican Republic with my baby who will be 11 months old. This is my first trip with my baby, so I would like to have recommendations on what medication to bring? And any other relevant recommendations to know to avoid health problems.

Good morning, ma'am,
Cipro is no longer among the primary recommendations for traveler's diarrhea for children and adults. There are other options, your pharmacist will be able to customize options for you.
For sun protection, I suggest a product with at least SPF 30, which will need to be applied often during the day.
For insect repellents, ideally apply them to clothing and exposed skin, but not the face or hands as there is a higher risk of ingestion at this age. At this age I recommend products containing the active ingredient icaridin. Your pharmacist will be able to give you choices depending on the inventory available.
Otherwise, your pharmacist will be able to complete the information according to your needs and the consultation for the kit you wish to 'build', such as acetaminophen (Tylenol and other brands) and Gravol among others.
Sincerely
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
