How can I increase my milk production?

37-year-old woman3 years ago
Hi, I am exclusively breastfeeding my 4 month old baby. Baby has been fussing at the breast for 2-3 days. I pumped after putting him down for the night and nothing came out. I am worried about a drop in production. Is there anything I can do besides stimulate production with the breast pump, can the pharmacist prescribe domperidone?

Hello Madam, thank you for your question!
I'm sorry to read about your troubles. Unfortunately, pharmacists cannot prescribe domperidone, it requires a prescription from a physician or specialized nurse practitioner, following a medical evaluation.
The best way to stimulate milk production is, as you have started, to express milk at regular intervals. It may take a few days for the effects to be noticed.
If this is not enough, there is some anecdotal evidence that fenugreek may be available at your local pharmacy. Your pharmacist will be able to tell you the dose depending on the product in stock.
I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!
