Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to avoid this discomfort?

After an orgasm, my vagina becomes extremely dry instantly. However, before I am very very moist, I have no problem, but as soon as I have an orgasm, my vagina becomes dry and if I continue the penetration, it becomes irritated and, obviously, it is very uncomfortable.

Hello,
I recommend that you try using a vaginal lubricant at this time, to allow you to continue penetration without creating pain.
The lubricant offers temporary relief. These can be water-based or silicone-based. Each have their advantages and disadvantages, so it may take a few tries to find the one that works for you. In general, however, silicone-based lubricants have a longer-lasting effect than water-based ones, as the latter tend to dry out quickly (and therefore need to be reapplied more often during sex).
You could also try using a vaginal moisturizer. This is a product that is used on a regular basis, i.e. 2 to 3 times a week. They adhere to the vaginal wall to retain water: this provides long-lasting relief! Once again, there are several products available, the best known being Replens. It is possible to use a moisturizer regularly and a lubricant during intercourse.
I remain available if needed and hope to have answered your question,
