Is this normal after a hiatal hernia surgery please?

I had a hiatal hernia operation on Feb 28th and my surgeon is on vacation so no one is here to answer my questions. I have been on a semi-liquid diet for 4 weeks (soup, smooties, etc.) and everything is fine but when I drink water I feel a lot of pain (as if someone is squeezing my throat and chest) so I have a lot of trouble drinking water. Each mini-sip makes me burp and if the sip is too big, the water comes out. Is this normal after such a surgery please?

Hello madam, it is impossible to answer you adequately because there is a lot of important information missing. I strongly suggest that you contact the surgical unit or the nurse navigator of the department.
I am sorry I cannot be more helpful at this time, the situation you describe is beyond what can be addressed on this platform.
