Which insect repellent do you recommend for a 6 month old and a 2 year old?

From 6 months of age, the product of choice is icaridin. The same goes for your 2 year old. You can use a concentrated product with up to 20% icaridin. The product should be applied to exposed skin such as clothing. Do not spray on the face, but rather spray on the hands and then apply to the face.
