After how long should I change my birth control pill?

22-year-old woman4 years ago
For me, it's the Alesse 28, it's the first one I've taken for 2 years now. I ask the question for health reasons, and if it's better to change after a while, because my friends and family think that since I've been taking it, I've put on weight...

Hello,
There are no indications to change the birth control pill. On the contrary, the body will again have to adapt to a new product and possibly to new side effects (cycle disruption in the first 3 months, increased appetite during the first 6 months, etc). I therefore suggest that if you tolerate it well, you should continue to take the contraception. As for weight gain, you should also know that weight gain can be secondary to several risk factors: increased appetite, poor diet, decreased physical activity, stress, etc. With the current studies we cannot establish a correlation between the use of combined hormonal contraceptives and weight gain. However, if you notice significant weight gain and are unable to find a plausible explanation, I would encourage you to discuss this with your doctor at your next appointment to see if there are other underlying causes.
I hope I have answered your question
