What to do if there is debris in a wound?

39-year-old woman3 years ago
My boy fell and scraped his ankle. I cleaned the wound but there is still a piece of rock in there that I can't get out because it hurts. Is there any chance that it will come out on its own? I put polysporin to avoid infection. What else can I do? Thanks

Hello ma'am, thank you for your question!
The debris should come out on its own especially if you flushed with white water. If the situation is from a few days ago, I would encourage you to consult in a walk-in. If a nurse is on duty she will be better able to assess the situation and ensure proper cleaning of the wound.
I am sorry I cannot be more helpful to you at this time

This came in today so I'm waiting until when to consult if the rock doesn't come out?

Thanks for the clarification! Just to be on the safe side, we shouldn't wait more than a day.
