My child has a big lump at the entrance of the ear. It has been getting bigger and bigger over time. It seems to bother him because he touches his ear sometimes, but not excessively. No other symptoms except for a runny nose but that's always a bit of a problem... He refused to sleep through his nap this afternoon, which is out of the ordinary, and he was touching his ear a lot during that time.

Hello Ma'am,
It is difficult to see clearly on the image, but it seems that there is a lot of swelling on the lobe. You will need to consult a physician to properly manage this situation.
In the meantime, applying cold (e.g. ice in a wet towel for 10 minutes at a time) and taking painkillers such as Tylenol or Advil if there are no contraindications to taking them, is the way to go.
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
