Should I stop using cortisone cream? Maybe I put too much on? Are whiteheads a sign of infection? Can it break out?

Hello, I have an external hemorrhoid that does not swell. I have been using Anodan 0.5% cream for 9 days, about 2-3 times a day. I use it both internally and externally. I take a bath 1-2 times a day as well. Since yesterday, I have pain at rest (something I didn't have before) and I see 2 small white spots on the hemorrhoid. I am 10 days post partum, but this hemorrhoid was present and swollen months before delivery. I had a hemorrhoid that came out after giving birth, but with the cream it went away. Note that I have no bleeding from the area.

Hello,
It is appropriate to treat a hemorrhoid with Anodan twice a day and after each bowel movement. It can take up to 14 days to heal, but it should at least improve after 5-7 days of treatment. Since this doesn't seem to be the case for you and new symptoms are developing, I recommend that you stop the cortisone cream and see a doctor.
A physical assessment by your doctor will help determine the appropriate treatment for your diagnosis. For your information, the signs of infection are
  • Redness and heat
  • Pain and inflammation
  • Purulent secretions
