Can it be caused by pregnancy? What can I do to reduce them?

Hello, I am 10 weeks pregnant and since 2 days I have frequent palpitations. They don't last long but they often happen during the day.

Hello,
Indeed, with the increase in blood volume caused by pregnancy, the heart rate can increase and cause palpitations (you feel your heart beating harder and faster).
Even though this can be normal in some cases, I can't comment on your specific case. I suggest that you discuss it with your doctor to make sure that there is no problem.
While waiting for your consultation, the following elements can help you:
  • Limit physical exertion: palpitations are less frequent at rest;
  • Make sure you stay well hydrated;
  • Avoid stimulants (tea, coffee, etc).
If you do not feel well, if you have shortness of breath or pain in addition to your palpitations, it would be appropriate to consult more quickly.
I hope that I have answered your question correctly,
Pierre-Luc Tremblay, pharmacist
