Hello!
The medication inside Singulair, montelukast, is called a leukotriene receptor antagonist. Leukotrienes are chemicals that are released by certain leukocytes (white blood cells). These chemicals can increase inflammation where they are released, notably in the airways. They can increase constriction of airways and mucus secretion.
Montelukast binds to the leukotriene receptors so that leukotrienes can not exert any effect on these receptors.
Montelukast is usually well tolerated. It can mostly cause headaches but they remain mild and rare.
Kind regards
