Can Ciprofloxacin treat a urinary tract infection?

72-year-old woman4 years ago
Hospitalized in April for pneumonia following chemotherapy treatment for my breast cancer. When I was discharged in June, the doctor told me that it's normal if there is blood in my urine and prescribed the antibiotic ciprofloxacin if I have blood in my urine. When I was discharged from the hospital, I did not bleed so I did not take this medication. It is now October 13th 9:15pm and I have had blood in my urine since 6pm (3 micturitions since 6pm). I have a burning sensation when I urinate and blood in my urine. I wanted to know if I should take the medication as prescribed at my discharge: take it for 10 days. Thank you for the answer.

Good evening ma'am,
Sorry for the delay in responding.
In fact, it is best to consult before taking it.
In fact, they will want to culture your urine before the first dose so that they can identify the pathogen (bacteria), but more importantly identify which antibiotic is able to treat it if the cipro doesn't work.
Can you contact a follow up nurse pivot?
