How long do the side effects of Prometrium last?

50-year-old woman6 years ago
The gynecologist prescribed Prometrium for heavy periods and the first time I took it, 2 tablets at bedtime, I felt very tired and dizzy. Should I continue to take it anyway? If so, how long will these effects last? Will taking ibuprofen help reduce my bleeding? Also, is it better to let the menstrual flow freely each month instead?

ferrous sulfate, Tranexamic acid as needed

Hello,
Drowsiness can indeed be a side effect of Prometrium. It is quite possible that this effect will decrease in the next few days.
Libuprofen (Advil) can be used to reduce bleeding, as can tranexamic acid.
Excessive and abnormal bleeding, if left untreated, can be detrimental to your health, first causing iron deficiency anemia, which in turn can cause symptoms such as fatigue, lack of energy, headaches, heart problems

I thought that Advil could actually cause more bleeding since it thins the blood? And what dosage do you recommend? Thank you so much!

Libuprofen (Advil) and other anti-inflammatory drugs will have the opposite effect on uterine bleeding. They have been shown to reduce bleeding by about 30-50%
The dose is the maximum recommended over-the-counter dose of 2 x 200mg tablets three times a day, preferably with food
