Hello! I take pantoprazole 30 minutes before lunch, followed by 500mg of Naproxen and, to finish my cocktail, 2mg of hydromorphone. Can I take an extra-strength muscle relaxant on top of all that? This is to ease the pain in my sciatic nerve that appeared 3 months ago. Thank you!

Taking muscle relaxant is compatible with your other medications. However, you should be careful about what it contains and look at the ingredients. Many over-the-counter formulas contain ibuprofen (Robaxplatin or generic brand, Motrin muscle pain). Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory drug in the same way as Naproxen and should be avoided. Over the counter, there is a combo of muscle relaxant and acetaminophen (e.g. Robaxacet). In this case, this combo would be compatible with your other medications. However, it is important to keep in mind that muscle relaxants cause drowsiness. As hydromorphone also causes drowsiness, you will have to be careful if you do activities that require alertness and avoid alcohol with this combination of medications
