Hello, I have heard that TRENTAL (Pentoxifylline 400) is no longer sold in Canada, so I would like to know what drug it is being replaced with? Thank you for your help!

Hello Ms.,
According to the Health Canada website (Drug Product Database), pentoxifylline 400mg extended release produced by AA Pharma and having the DIN 02230090 is still marketed in Canada.
I am curious, where did your information stating otherwise come from?

Hello, Thank you for your response!
I got this information from the Canoe.ca health site (see link here below)

I understand.
In fact, the original Trental is no longer available in Canada (as are many drugs for which a generic form is available). However, at least one generic is available on the Canadian market.

Hello, I have another question for you. This summer I have to go to Paris to see a specialist in radio-oncology, and he is going to propose a treatment of drugs to take for my intestines which are irradiated following a radiotherapy several years ago. 1) I imagine that I will be able to buy the drugs in a pharmacy in Paris (because they are not all available in QC). 2) I will be able to bring them back to QC with the prescription from the specialist in Paris?
Thank you!

Yes, no problem for your two questions. It is possible that some drugs used in France are a little different from what we find here, but as a general rule we are able to find an alternative (or sometimes to bring the drugs from another country through a "special access" program).
Good evening,
Alexandre Chagnon, pharmacist
