My 1 year old has a rectal fever of 40. I don't know if this is fake news, but can I give Advil?

Advil should not be given in case he has Covid-19. Note that since he was 2 months old he almost always has colds. Hospitalized at 2 months for a pneumonia. Has already had ear infections and brochiolitis.

Hello Ma'am,
There is some preliminary data that has yet to be validated that taking anti-inflammatory drugs (Advil™, Motrin™, Aleve™, ibuprofen, naproxen) during a coronavirus infection may worsen symptoms (or delay optimal management).
These data come to us mostly from Europe, where several young patients have been hospitalized with coronavirus. It appears that many of them were taking them.
While it's not clear whether this represents a real causal link, I recommend not taking anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce flu-like symptoms (fevers, aches, headaches, sore throats) at this time.
In lieu of these, we'll take Tylenol™ or Tempra™ (acetaminophen).
Maybe we'll realize in a few weeks that it was just a coincidence, but for now, it's best not to take any chances.
Good day,
Alexandre Chagnon, pharmacist
P.S. If fever is present for more than 2 days at this age, consult.
