My baby is not getting rid of his cough (about 10 days since he had a cold) and I'm afraid he'll get an ear infection.

Hello Ma'am,
In general, coughing is not a serious symptom. The action of coughing is part of the body's defense mechanisms to protect the lung passages. However, coughing can become bothersome at times, so it can be relieved with non-pharmacological methods:
  • Avoid liquids that are too acidic, such as orange or grapefruit juice, as this can make his sore throat worse. Cold drinks can also help him.
  • If your baby is older than one year, you can give him a teaspoon of honey to soothe him.
Otitis in babies usually presents with ear pain. The child is disturbed and may touch his or her ears frequently. Most ear infections are viral in origin, so it would go away on its own without treatment. Thus, it is recommended to monitor the symptoms for 48 hours and see how the child's condition changes.
On the other hand, in your case, given the persistence of the cough for more than 10 days, I would advise you to go and see a doctor in order to have a medical evaluation of your baby.
