My baby has a red tip on his penis, it's around his urethra to the piece of skin connected to the foreskin. It doesn't seem to be painful.

Hello,
As I have not seen the redness in question, would it be possible for you to answer these few questions to better guide me? As the redness may be caused by rubbing, infection or simply wetness from the diapers, your answers will help me better advise you:
  1. How old is your baby? Is he or she wearing diapers, underwear or pull-ups?
  2. How long has this redness been present?
  3. Does he or she have a fever or swelling (swelling) near the foreskin, discharge or signs of itching?
  4. Finally, has he had any changes in his urine and stool (less urine, dark urine, more liquid stool)?
Following your answers, it will be easier for me to provide you with some tips and advice 🙂

Hello,
1. He is 14 months old, he wears cloth diapers most of the time.
2. For a good 3 weeks, it had calmed down then came back.
3. None of this, everything seems as usual.
4. No change here either.

First of all thank you mom for your answers!
It seems to be a simple irritation caused by moisture and rubbing in the diaper. It is possible for you to try applying at least 20% zinc cream at each diaper change using disposable diapers for the duration of the zinc cream use. You can clean the area with a wet cloth or wipes but it is not necessary to remove the cream completely if there is no stool. Also be sure to dry the area well before applying the cream. You can change the diapers more often for the next 2-3 days or leave it out for a period of time without a diaper if that is possible for you.
The important thing is not to use scented soap, antiseptic, or pull on the foreskin to reach the skin underneath.
If after 3-4 days of treatment the redness has not diminished, if it spreads to other areas or if symptoms of infection such as fever or pain appear, it will be best to consult a doctor. He or she will then be able to diagnose the presence of an infection and prescribe the appropriate treatment.
Also, since cloth diapers can collect residue or become less absorbent over time, you could try cleaning your diapers according to the company's directions or here: https://www.calinsetpopotin.com/pages/guide-dentretien-des-couches-lavables.
If you use a product like liniment or even a balm like Baby Owl don't hesitate to put some on his scrotum and penis as well when the redness tries to come back or just in maintenance. Liniment is a pretty handy solution since it cleans the area while leaving a thin protective layer.
Hopefully this helps, if you ever have any other questions, feel free to write me again. Have a great evening! 🙂
