How to lower the blood level of C-reactive protein?

38-year-old woman2 years ago
Hello! When I have had blood tests in the last few years, my C-reactive protein level is always high. It was 20 in July 2020, 55 in February 2021 and 65 in January 2022. I am overweight (180 lbs for 5 feet 2). Following a colonoscopy, I know that I do not have inflammatory bowel disease. I am very concerned about this high level. I read that it can be linked to serious diseases. I have also read that it increases the risk of having a child with autism and that worries me a lot as I am trying to get pregnant. Is it dangerous at 65? Is it linked to autism in an unborn child?

Hello ma'am
C-reactive protein (CRP) indicates the presence of inflammation. This may be secondary to exercise, injury, infection, or another inflammatory condition
On its own, this value does not indicate much, it is really the underlying condition that needs to be addressed... In your case, what was the reason for the CRP measurement?

The first time was because I have anemia. My doctor suspected inflammatory bowel disease. This was ruled out after a normal colonoscopy. The other two times, the dosage was done following consultations for abdominal pain.

My doctor told me that I might just have an inflammatory profile and didn't seem to be too worried, but the reading I'm doing is really not reassuring me... I'd like to get it down, but I don't know
how. I have no known illnesses and no injuries either...

Thanks for the information!
Indeed, it is quite difficult to lower this level especially if the cause is not yet determined concretely. I agree with your doctor that if there are no other symptoms, there is not much to do and no need to worry.
