My baby is hardly drinking any milk, should I be concerned?

Hi, my 7 month old baby hardly drinks any milk. He has never been a big drinker and never drank more than he does now. His family doctor only says that some babies drink less than others but there is a difference between drinking less and drinking almost none. Babies his age drink an average of 25-30oz while my son often doesn't make it to 8oz in 24 hours. In your opinion as a pharmacist, is there a medical reason why he is not drinking more? Or is this normal for some?

Hello Mrs., thank you for your question!
Indeed, 8 ounces per day, or about 240 ml, does not seem like much for a 7 month old
This being said, in such a case I would have suggested an evaluation by his pediatrician. I am reassured that the evaluation did not reveal a problem. I agree with the doctor that it is possible to vary from one person to another. The important thing is that your child
  • Drinks during the day;
  • wets and soils his or her diaper (yellow urine and stool)
  • appears to be in good general condition.
Also, at his age I imagine he has started eating solids for some time? Don't worry, your child will eat his fill, or let you know :)
I hope I've been helpful, don't hesitate if there's anything you need!

PS: If you haven't done so, I suggest you take a look at the website Birth and Growth, it is full of information :)
