I have been losing a lot of hair for a few months, is minoxidil really lifelong? Does it cause facial hair to grow?

Hello, In the last 4 years I had 2 pregnancies. And I also had iron deficiencies during and after. I have recently started taking B12 and iron supplements again. I had to be diligent and watch it closely. However, in the last few months I have noticed that I have lost more hair than normal after my 2 children. My hair on top is sparse...so I can tell you that psychologically this has a huge impact. I saw a dermatologist who recommended minoxidil...but I read that it is a lifetime treatment.

Hello ma'am, thank you for your question!
It is normal to notice a "loss" of hair after giving birth. However, it is not a real loss: the volume of hair and its number increases during pregnancy, and following the delivery and a return to normal hormone levels, these gains return to normal. This may sound impressive.
That being said, taking B12 and iron will only help if you have a deficiency. Eating fruits and vegetables helps to acquire the necessary vitamins otherwise.
Minoxidil can help with androgenic alopecia, and it is true that its effects usually disappear if it is stopped. The other options have not been shown to be effective.
I hope I've been helpful, please feel free to ask any questions you may have
