I have a cold and my chest hurts, what can I do?

I've had a cold for a few days and I'm starting to have chest pain (in my lungs). I have a hacking cough and I am congested. I take nasal showers several times a day. I do not have a fever and I am not tired.

Hello ma'am, I'm sorry to read about your troubles!
You are doing well with nasal douches, I suggest you do them as often as necessary during the day and at least 30 minutes before bedtime. I encourage you to drink plenty of fluids, cold or hot depending on your preference.
For pain, Tylenol is still the best option. If your throat is sore or irritated, lozenges such as Halls or Fisherman's Friend can provide local relief.
If your symptoms persist for more than a week without improvement, you should seek medical attention as a precaution.
I hope this has been helpful and am available if you have any further questions!
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist

I would like to know what is the use of the syrups on the market and under what circumstances should I take them. Maybe they are not effective, I don't take them, but I was wondering about their use

Thank you for your question, it is very pertinent, especially since there is a whole wall of syrups at the pharmacy!
Cough syrups have not been shown to be more effective than drinking lots of fluids or taking a teaspoon of honey. This is mainly because they do not address the cause of the problem
I do not recommend them because of their uncertain effectiveness and because of the risk of interactions and side effects they may cause.
I hope I have been helpful!
