Thank you for your question!
However, it is impossible to determine the cause of your symptoms, as this requires a diagnosis, which is reserved for doctors.
Having said that, the breathing difficulties you describe are a serious enough problem to suggest that you consult a doctor, if only as a precaution.
Sorry I can't be more helpful at this time

Is it possible that taking citalopram prevents anxiety attacks, but that one has the same symptoms (e.g. "tightness" in the chest)?

Good question!
Citalopram is one of the most effective medications for generalized anxiety disorder.
Keep in mind that a certain level of anxiety is normal. What is abnormal is when this anxiety prevents you from carrying out your normal daily activities. Citalopram can help to manage this anxiety, but it is also necessary to work to elucidate its causes. As long as the causes of the anxiety are present, the problem may persist
Citalopram can therefore reduce the frequency of anxiety attacks, and/or reduce their magnitude, but it is unlikely to make them disappear completely on its own
To identify it, an anxiety attack is usually accompanied by symptoms, which may differ from person to person. You can't have an anxiety attack without having symptoms. However, chest tightness is a symptom that can be associated with other conditions here, which is why it is important to have a medical evaluation so you don't miss another problem.
