How long before and after I stop using birth control should I use a condom to protect myself?

I have been taking the birth control pill for several years (Generic Diane 35). I take it continuously. For the last 2 months, I have a boyfriend with whom I have unprotected sex every day. I was planning to stop the pill in the next few days. I read on the internet that the pill protects me even when I stop. I find this strange when everyone says that if you forget your pill for a day or even just take it later than usual, you could get pregnant. So my question is...

Good morning, ma'am,
If you take Diane 35 or its generic for 21 days without stopping or forgetting, and if your interruption period is 7 days or less, Diane 35 (and its generic) is an effective contraceptive.
