For an ear infection in my 16 month old daughter.

For further clarification: bilateral otitis/pain and fever. Prescription of Biaxin started 48 hrs ago. She no longer has a fever (although her body temperature is slightly higher than usual), but seems uncomfortable still, bad mood, little appetite.
is it just the presence of fever that is to be determined if the antibiotic is effective? And at what point should I consult again? Thank you.

Hello ma'am!
I am reassured that you report a decrease in fever since the antibiotic was started. We evaluate all symptoms when an antibiotic is prescribed for them. Discomfort and irritability are not abnormal, however, and your child may still exhibit these signs even if the treatment is effective. It is usually given for 72 hours to assess its effect. Keep in mind, however, that Biaxin can cause decreased appetite and diarrhea.
I hope this has been helpful, please feel free if you have any further questions
