How long do antibiotics work for sinusitis?

31-year-old woman2 years ago
Hello, I am currently 27 weeks pregnant. Following a consultation with my doctor on Monday, I started a course of antibiotics for sinusitis (Novamaxin 500g). She also told me to take Otrivin nasal spray as needed if I had congestion. It's been 48 hours since I started the antibiotics and have been using the Otrivin spray. When I do the spray it helps a lot but the congestion comes back and I still don't see any improvement in my sinus pain and even my teeth? Is this normal? How long before we can expect to see an effect? Thank you very much, [name removed]

Good morning, ma'am!
We can expect an improvement of the symptoms after 72 hours of antibiotic treatment.
In addition to Otrivin, I strongly suggest nasal hygiene with a saline solution (Hydrasense, Sinus Rinse and others), which can be done as often as needed during the day, and at least 30 minutes before bedtime (there is no maximum number of times per day!). I would also like to remind you not to use Otrivin for more than 3 to 5 consecutive days
Finally, I encourage you to drink plenty of fluids, cold or hot depending on your preference.
I hope I've been helpful, so don't hesitate if you have any other questions!
