Pain in the throat, what to do?

Hello, I have had tonsillitis for 7 days and it won't go away. I started to have red tonsils with white spots last Thursday and I was consulted on Saturday for a pain that became more and more unbearable. The doctor confirmed that it was not bacterial but viral and did not prescribe antibiotics. On Sunday, everything was fine and I was almost pain free. However, on Monday I started to have pain again as well as a dry cough at bedtime and a wet cough when I woke up in the morning, which usually fades away. I take advils/tylenols which seem to help sometimes with the pain but my tonsils are still swollen with white spots. I don't know what the cough is related to.
