Should I take a calcium and vitamin D supplement at age 57?

I am a 57 year old woman and I do not take any calcium/vitamin D2 supplements. I am healthy: I move daily and I eat very well (green vegetables, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, .... Milk) A friend told me that I absolutely must take a supplement to prevent osteoporosis, is this true?

Hi, thank you for your question!
Osteoporosis Canada recommends that all adults take a vitamin D supplement in Canada. For adults over the age of 50, the recommended dose is between 800 and 2000 IU (international units) per day.
I hope I've been helpful, so please don't hesitate if there's anything you need!

So if I understand correctly I have to take vitamin D year round but not necessarily calcium as a supplement?

You will need to check your daily calcium intake, I suggest this link from Osteoporosis Canada as a tool to estimate your intake. I find it very well done :)
