Do Alvesco and Ventolin stop coughing?

42-year-old woman2 years ago
Hello my daughter is taking alvesco and ventolin for SUSPICION asthma. I was told to do it for 4 months to see if the cough goes away, because just cough and stuffy nose I give nasonex and I do sinus rinse every day, but when she has a cough at bedtime I give her ventolin, would that be supposed to stop the cough -? Because I have the impression that it doesn't work. Would it be better to give alvesco in the evening? Because she has a cough when she goes to bed. I suspect secretions but the Doctors say not about 🤷🏻♀️

Good morning, Madam,
Alvesco can be given in the morning or in the evening, its action is prolonged
Ventolin can help relieve cough if it is secondary to airway constriction. If the cough is also secondary to sinus discharge in the throat, nasal hygiene should be performed as often as required and 30 minutes before bedtime.

Ok so alvesco that I give it morning or evening it doesn't change anything, the effect is supposed to work even in the evening when she goes to bed, so that would mean that the pumps don't work and that wouldn't be the problem, because she still coughs in the evening when she goes to bed

I cannot say whether your treatment is effective, but you should know that it may take several weeks to properly evaluate the effect of Alvesco.

I see, thanks for the feedback!
The problem in this kind of case is to distinguish between coughs that "come from" the bronchial tubes and those that come from runny noses, for example during colds or allergies
Apart from the cough in the evening, did your child have a cough during the day or other symptoms such as shortness of breath, difficulty breathing or intolerance to exertion? Have these shown improvement?

No that's it she just had the cough, she's not short of breath. She coughs a little when she runs, but no shortness of breath and the pediatrician said asthma maybe just cough, but I don't see any improvement. She would have secretions perpetually in my opinion, that's what made her cough, and yet she has nasonex for a long time and no improvement either, I don't know if she could take more than a push in her nose? She still has a stuffy nose I think

Thanks for the information!
Given the description of the situation, I would suggest continuing with the products and try giving her an anti-histamine like Claritin or Aerius. These are safe for children and you can get a good idea of their effectiveness after 5-7 days.

Even if there is no allergy, can it relieve congestion? Because she had allergy tests and no allergy
thank you

It will work if there is an allergy component (ragweed, dust, etc). Otherwise, I would be of the opinion to re-evaluate the suitability of Nasonex.

Well she had avamys before which didn't work, but avamys and nasonex do the same thing? They give this I think for vegetation..

Because it is made for chronic sinusitis also seems to me these cortico there? Which are not always related to an allergy?

In fact, they are prescribed in case of suspicion of inflammation, which can be caused by an allergy in particular.
