I have seasonal allergies since April-May, I am 26 weeks pregnant. I often have itching on my body with stuffy nose and other common symptoms...relieved by reactin once every 2-3 days. Should I consult for gravidic cholestasis...everyone is scaring me with this.

Hello Mrs,
I would like to reassure you that the use of anti-histamines such as Reactin, Claritin or Aerius is safe during pregnancy. I would also like to mention that dry skin can be made worse during pregnancy.
The basis of treatment is moisturizing the skin and other non-pharmacological measures:
  • A fragrance-free moisturizer such as Aveeno, Cutibase, Base Glaxal, Cerave and others should be applied as often as needed. The cream should be applied whenever the need to scratch arises, among others
  • Avoid scented soaps, and after the bath or shower, avoid vigorous scrubbing of the skin: instead, lightly pat the skin to leave a thin layer of moisture, and then apply the moisturizer within 5 minutes of leaving the bath/shower.
  • In winter, be sure to protect exposed skin, so wear gloves, scarf or neck warmer.
  • If the air is too dry indoors, a humidifier in the bedroom can also be suggested.
I hope that I have reassured you, and I remain available if you have any further questions!
