Does alcohol affect fertility?

31-year-old woman2 years ago
Hi, my partner and I have been trying to conceive for several months and every cycle, after sex during my fertility window, and waiting for a positive test, I always wonder how bad it would be to keep drinking wine at night. I'm down to 2-3 glasses of wine a night. On weekends, more. I'm trying to cut back and not drink every night, with success :) but the weekend comes and I have a craving for wine. And two weeks of waiting to hear the results of the pregnancy test is looooong.

Good morning, ma'am
Yes, several studies have shown the negative effects of alcohol on women and men who are trying to conceive. That being said, if you are trying to conceive, I strongly suggest that you stop drinking alcohol, as it can increase the risk of miscarriage, premature labor, low birth weight, and many other deleterious effects on the baby's development.
Finally, it's true that waiting until the first expected day of your period to take a pregnancy test may seem like a long time, but the anxiety caused by this anticipation can also negatively affect your chances. So I suggest you continue to take care of yourself, and try to enjoy the process as much as possible :)
I hope I've been of some help to you, and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
