Does Zika still pose a risk when traveling to the Caribbean?

35-year-old womana year ago
Hello, I am 11 weeks pregnant and plan to travel to a sunny destination at the end of February 2023 (so I will be between 18 and 20 weeks). I am having trouble finding current information regarding the Zika situation in 2023. (Several information on the internet date between 2016 and 2019). A health professional has confirmed that pregnant women can now travel with certain precautionary measures (mosquito repellent, long clothing in the evening, making sure windows are closed at night etc) but I would like a second opinion

Thanks for the feedback.
As of today, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (commonly known as CDC) reports that there is currently no active Zika outbreak in the majority of Caribbean countries. However, the risk cannot be considered zero, considering the presence of mosquitoes that can potentially carry the disease and the possible delays in reporting cases to the country.
The CDC recommends constant chemical and physical protection against mosquitoes (including a net around the bed at night) during travel and for 3 weeks afterward.
If you go with your partner, it is recommended that they wear a condom during sex until the end of the pregnancy, even if they have no symptoms.
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
